Tokyo has been available on early release since 4th August 2022, with the general release planned for Q3 this year.
What can you expect from the new release? We’re going to give you a run-down of the fantastic features Tokyo has to offer.
So, let’s dive in!
Admin Dashboard
This new feature enables you to keep track of how many applications you have on the platform and alerts you when there are updates available.
As well as application management, you can see what tasks have been assigned to you and their current progress.
Other features of the dashboard include a ‘favourite’ folder and a widgets section. The widgets allow you to set out your apps the way you want, making it more accessible to you as a Functional Consultant.
Business Objective
This page allows not only the admin, but the whole business, to see their progress and where they can make improvements.
It is beautifully set out with easy to view gauges for performance management. Divided into 6 parameters, it allows the user to easily see what the business is doing in real time.
In short, it allows the business to see what they are currently using, and what is recommended by ServiceNow – ensuring it makes for a better user experience.
Formula Builder
This feature is mainly used in the development perspective of ServiceNow. This means that when you are using a table in the Application Builder of App Engine Studio, you can now create a formula for a particular field. ServiceNow has added basic mathematical formulae into the Tokyo release.
Condition Builder
This feature has been added to the UI builder. The component allows you to add your own conditions, or pre-made conditions from ServiceNow.
User Presence
This is a function which can now be found on the Agent Workspace. It enhances the user experience by allowing you to view other users, seeing what they are currently working on, and the progress they are making.
Multilingual Notification Support
The default notification settings are in English, this can now be changed by each individual user to adapt it to their native language. The user must change this setting else it will just default to English. This now allows colleagues from different countries to receive the same notification as their colleagues abroad, but in their native language.
S/MIME Support for Inbound/Outbound Emails
ServiceNow has introduced a plugin which allows you to attach a digital signature and encrypt your email.
Guided Setup
ServiceNow has introduced a complete Guided Setup module, and it’s mainly available for your custom applications. You can create your Guided Setup by going to the Conversational Interfaces homepage. This enhances user experience but is also beneficial from a consultant's perspective; they can now easily produce guidance for any new custom apps.
ATF Test Generation
In the Tokyo release, AI Based Relation Testing has been introduced. This is a great introduction for users, and for the testing team within your organisation.
Read Only Roles in Flow Designer
ServiceNow has introduced “read only” in Flow Designer. This allows you to place restrictions on your flow, deciding who can and cannot read or edit your workings.
Decision Builder
Although the decision builder is not a new feature, ServiceNow has expanded its functionality.
You can now export the decision into an excel spreadsheet to make changes. However, you cannot re-import the changed spreadsheet back into the decision builder, so you will need to make any changes in the decision builder also.
Log Protection
This is a plugin for a completely new module in the Tokyo release. This allows you to check and protect the logs as per your requirement.
Upgrade Plan
Upgrading your ServiceNow is made easier by this new module. You can decide when and how you want to upgrade at any time.
EMCA Script 2021 (E6S+)
This is enhancement on the code or Java, specifically where the Java runs as the main intention for ServiceNow. This feature would mainly enhance the experience for Architects and Developers.
The Tokyo release also allows you to purchase some new features at an extra cost, these include:
- Debug Dashboard - This allows you to see how many apps are running, and how many debugs there are. You will be able to see the flow performance and the mid server function, and this will allow you to understand the level of debugging required.
- Document Intelligence – Once you have set up the format and configuration of any document, this feature allows it to be duplicated for future documents, saving time on data entry.
- Automation Centre – Combining all your automations, so you can monitor each one in the same space.
- App Engine Management Centre – This is a workspace to allow you to view all your apps and their current performance.
- Email Notification Authoring – ServiceNow has added a function in Flow Designer to allow you to set up a notification if a particular function is triggered.
- Template Sharing – This feature allows you to share templates with specific users or groups.
